Amsterdam Café opened in the early 1990’s. It was originally designed to showcase the founder’s handmade Shulbok tables. Cold draft Heineken was the trademark, and the smoky little joint quickly became the local hangout for students, faculty, and locals. The original owner sold the restaurant to the Cleveland Family in 1998, and changes began in menu, renovation, and size. Of utmost value to the new owners was preserving the Van Gogh inspired theme and artwork.

Today, Amsterdam is alive with conversation, music, a locally-sourced farm-to-table menu and cool servers. Casual, upscale, downhome, black tie, or jeans… you will feel welcomed and comfortable in a relaxed and stylish setting. Heralded as an Auburn tradition, the eatery has now expanded with a new space, The Back Room. It is the perfect place for special events or watching the latest sporting event at the additional bar.
