Welcome to Pearlville! Basketball season is back with a vengeance. Whether you’re a die-hard Auburn fan or visiting team loyalist, we’ve crafted a locals’ guide to a weekend-long stay or midweek getaway you’ll love! Without the tailgating and 4-5 hour long games that football brings, basketball season lends extra time for visitors to take in our area. Dining is probably priority number one on your list while in town. Lucky for you, our options are practically limitless.
Niffer’s is a fan favorite for their classic burgers and beer combos, but you can’t leave without trying their famous corn nuggets. With two locations in Auburn and Opelika, Niffer’s is easily accessible from wherever you’re staying.
If you’re in the mood for margs and tacos, check out Tacorita in downtown Auburn. Grab a few street tacos and a house margarita to tip-off your stay or celebrate a win. Another local go-to, whether it's Sunday brunch or Friday night dinner, is Amsterdam Cafe. Known for their crab cake and avocado sandwich and classic turkey wrap, you will never leave hungry!
Is fine dining more your speed? Café 123 in Opelika is one of the very best meals money can buy. Their menu presents classic Southern cuisine with a French influence. It’s a dining experience that will have you saying “Ooh la la” the rest of the trip. For more of our locally owned, wonderful classics, check out our Best Bites list and full restaurant list.
All that eating will fuel you up for an adventure. While you’re in town for the basketball game, stretch your legs at one of our parks. Explore outdoor beauty in Auburn-Opelika with a hike through Chewacla State Park. Wander around the 696 acres of natural beauty just a short drive from Auburn University. Strolling through the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center is another outdoor activity great for families. With wide, flat trails, it is a perfect hiking spot for all ages and all skill levels.
Are indoor activities more your family’s speed? Blade and Barrel Axe Co. is located off Opelika Road and is an axe throwing venue for ages eight and up. Good Times is also a family-friendly indoor entertainment center. Not only do they have bowling lanes, but the venue also offers two escape rooms, 30+ arcade games, and an eatery.
Stressed about the score? If you’re in need of a bit of R&R before or after the game, head to the Marriott at Grand National Resort & Spa. Ranked in the top 100 spas in America for 2021, you won’t regret booking a treatment in this relaxation oasis.
Last but not least, catch a show at the Gogue Performing Arts Center. From Broadway productions to piano battles and bluegrass, there are performances for every taste. You can check out the full list of upcoming shows here.
